1.  News and Updates

Hello everyone! I'm back!

Michael did an awesome job of handling the News and Updates section (isn't he a fantastic writer?), but I did miss it. So I'm returning to offer my perspective of what's new around here...

We have an all-new report being released in mid-September that I'm really excited about. It's called "Inside The $3+ Billion Scrapbook Industry," and we're having a special pre-order celebration going on now. You can read more about it in #5 below or here.

Want to learn some simple ways to expand your business using PhotoShop Elements? Don't miss our first live event, "Digital Dollars! How to Boost Business and Multiply Profits Using Photoshop Elements,"! You can read more in #6 below or by clicking here.

Updates in the Platinum members' area will go live later this week. I don't want to give too much away, but...I think it will be worth the wait! (Oooh, I can't wait to tell all of you what we've been working on - day and night! Lots of surprises will be happening soon on FunFactsPublishing.com!)

And finally, Michael and I have headed to my home state of Connecticut for a special celebration - my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary! Look for photos soon!

Once again, thanks for being a part of FFP! We love and appreciate you all!

2. Scrapbooking Business Tips:
For Crop Organizers

This first tip comes from Lisa East, of Kentucky's Scrap 4 Fun:

"I have a large group of croppers that comes nearly every week," Lisa says. "Weekends are crazy around here with everyone sharing supplies and it never fails, leaving supplies behind.

"To avoid this problem, I typed up 'I Belong to...' stickers using regular envelope labels, and I give them as a thank-you gift to all my regulars. Now, at the end of a crop session everyone gets their things back, and my 'lost and found' bucket is empty."

Lillian Krause offers this second tip:

"Want to save those tables from glue or pen smears?" Lillian asks. "Then perhaps this idea will work for you. Take a 12x18 sheet of cardboard and cover it with wax paper taped down snuggly. Then, let your croppers scrap away on it. When they become too messy for the next crop, just remove the wax paper and recover. You will be surprised how it helps keep off the glue build up on the crop tables."

Great tips, Lisa and Lillian! Thank you!

5. Feature Article:
Boost Your Back To School Profits
By Sue DiFranco

Back To School season is right around the chalkboard. And what better reason to begin a major marketing campaign! Here are some ways to get started:

Offer special B2S classes and crops for people of all ages. Have one just for students, one for adults scrapping their school years, and events focusing on specific school times: elementary, prom, graduation, etc.

Throw a Themed Crop for your adult croppers working on their school pages. If a majority of them attended high school about 15-20 years ago, kick off a "Back To The '80s Scrap-ulous Event," complete with music and snacks from that decade. And sharing big-haired photos with the group is a must!

Retail and e-tail stores: group school-themed products together, along with layout samples. (Make sure the layouts include a list of all supplies used, so customers can easily grab the products they'll need.)

A die or laser cutting machine is a wise investment. This will allow you to sell custom, one-of-a-kind embellishments - focusing on local themes, or even creating made-to-order designs for customers. If your local schools approve, introduce new laser cuts featuring the schools' names, images of the mascot, sports teams' names, etc. Can't customize? Simply include local school colors as part of your featured product lines.

Custom Scrapbook Artists - back to school time provides you with a fabulous opportunity to establish the long-term "relationships" with your clients that we recommend.
Package up and market a year-long, ongoing service to parents, and name it the "Preserve Your Child’s School Year!" custom scrapbooking service...

Collect photos from your client throughout the school year, design the layouts as you receive them, and return the finished pages. Keep up the process until June - by which time you’ll have made some hefty profits! (Especially if your client is an avid photo-taker.)

Send news releases/media kits to local and national media. If you are having an event that is "visual," contact your local television news stations as well. And, of course, let your mailing list or direct mail list know about your special.

Create pre-made B2S and ABC albums and sell them at local fairs and school functions.

Contact your local schools and offer to teach a class on creating a "What I Did On My Summer Vacation" scrapbook.

If you live in or near a college town, put out flyers and/or take out an ad in the campus newspaper welcoming back students. Give an ongoing discount to college students, and don't forget to hold college-only crops throughout the year!

Donate something to your local schools. Many office supplies superstores have great sales right now. Why not pick up a case of pens or notebooks and donate them? Even if your contact info isn't included, it's the Karma that will come back to help you!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

7. Sue's Favorite Resource of the Month

Overture's Search Term Suggestion Tool

This fabulous - and FREE - resource from Overture tells you how many times a particular keyword was searched on in the past month.

If you use pay-per-click advertising, this is an essential resource to decide what keywords you should bid on. Overture gives the results from major search engines such as Yahoo, Alta Vista, and MSN.

But even if you don't pay-per-click, this tool can provide lots of online fun! Go on, look up "scrapbooking" - it was searched 136,038 times in June 2004 alone! "Scrapbook," however, was only used in a search 70,423 times.

One warning - it's easy to lose track of time while plugging random words into this web site, so be careful you don't lose too many hours!

Have fun!
