2.  News and Updates

Hello and a warm welcome to all new subscribers!

Well, we survived the blackout! It was quite a surreal experience seeing Manhattan in complete darkness. We went to Times Square just to see what it looked like without all the neon lights everywhere - it will probably be the only time we'll ever see it like that! Back at home, we opened the windows (our air conditioners are on so often, Michael joked that it was actually us who caused the blackout!), listened to AM radio, and talked. By the next morning, it was business as usual!

It's hard to believe it's been a whole month since ACCI! It was wonderful to see so many of you there! We taught another marketing seminar, "Scrapbook Business University," and also had a booth exhibiting our products and services. It was great to run into old friends, as well as make so many more new ones! Thanks to all of you who came up to say hi!

In ultra embarrassing news, I turned into the biggest scrapbook geek of all time when I spotted Becky Higgins on the show floor. Michael and I were walking back from a meeting when I spotted her. I stopped her and just began babbling incoherently. Ever the kindest and most patient person, she politely asked me to slow down. I tried, but it was too difficult.

Finally, I thanked her for stopping and Michael led me and my bright red face away. "I'm sure she gets that all the time," he tried to reassure me. "But I'm in the industry! I'm supposed to be a professional!" I wailed. Embarrassing though it was, it was a pleasure to meet Becky - she was sweet, kind, and down to earth.

In other news...

Scrapbook Industry News Platinum Edition

Our biggest announcement is the launch of our all new monthly publication, "Scrapbook Industry News Platinum Edition." We're very excited to offer another source of information and inspiration to help you all continue down your individual roads of success! This new publication will contain all new information that is not found in this ezine and will be accessible only to subscribers.

We just have so much information here to get out to you, this ezine is simply not enough. In the Platinum Edition, you'll have access to many exclusive articles revolving around a monthly theme (this issue's theme is "Power Up Your Publicity," so you'll learn tons on how to launch a successful P.R. campaign and get free media publicity).

The Platinum Edition also features several exclusive regular sections, including Digital Zone, Ask Sue, and Teaching Scrapbooking: A Guide For Retailers and Instructors. And perhaps the most anticipated section is Industry Insider, in which you'll learn information on the scrapbook industry that you won't find anywhere else - news you need to know to run the most successful business as you can.

The best news is, you're able to read a sample issue at no cost. Get a feel for what you can expect every single month by visiting here.

Don't forget to check out our "Scrapbooking In The News"  article, where we have added even more links to places where the media has written about or mentioned scrapbooking. This information is perfect for you to use in your business plans, in your press release/media kit (to prove that other media have recognized this industry), or just to read for fun!

If you're a new subscriber, you might be wondering why certain words in this ezine are separated with asterisks. It's because the appearance of certain words will trigger some email providers to not deliver the message. If you find that you're not receiving this ezine on a regular monthly schedule, it might mean your email provider is rejecting it. Remember that you can always read each issue online here.

Thanks so much for being a part of Fun Facts Publishing! I hope you enjoy this issue, and please feel free to stay in touch with whatever comments or questions you may have! Have a fabulous month!

3. New Contest! Design Our Book Covers and Win!

Get ready, all you designers out there! We're ready to update the covers of our first two books and we need your help!

All you need to do is design a book cover for either "Secrets of Scrapbooking Success," "Memory Marketing," or both, and email it to us. The winner will receive 100 dollars cash, and full credit and contact information in the book, on our Web site, and in this ezine!

Here are some helpful hints...

The design should be 400 pixels in height and 310 pixels in width. (Please keep in mind that the winner will be asked to submit a high resolution graphic no less than 3300 x 2550.)

It can be full color and can include whatever photos you may want to use (as long as you receive copyright clearance).

Those of you who have read the book know what's in it, so that may help you. If not, you can read all about the books on our Web site here:
http://www.funfactspublishing.com/books.htm

Our favorite colors are pink, silver, and purple, but you should use whatever colors you feel best suit it.

Please email a version of the design, no more than 100K, to michael@funfactspublishing.com .

Thanks so much, and good luck!

5. Craftrends Corner: What Women Want

When American Demographics celebrated its 25th anniversary, the magazine asked demographic experts to comment on the driving trends of the last quarter of a century. Jeffrey Humphreys, director of Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, said, "Among the most significant demographic trends of the past 25 years has been the rising participation of women in the labor force, which greatly increased the productive capacity of the nation. Also, as women became more career-oriented, they delayed marriage and childbearing, which lowered birth rates and altered the age distribution of the population."

It would be hard to argue that the changing role of women hasn’t also changed retail in in numerous ways - both what we buy and how we want to buy it. Remember when there was no pre-bagged salad?

So what do women want?

She likes bright, clean, and organized stores.
She’s an impulse shopper and wants displays that entice her to buy.
She likes stores that offer the services and conveniences that make her life easier.

If you want the full report of What Women Want, email your request to beth.hess@primedia.com  .

If you aren't receiving Craftrends every month, you're missing a valuable source of business and trend information. You may qualify for a FREE subscription. Visit http://www.craftrends.com for more information.

Registration is now open for The 2003 MemoryTrends Trade Show Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Sands Expo Center, Las Vegas. See all the latest memory products, plus attend educational seminars with Fun Facts Publishing's Sue DiFranco and many other retail experts. For more information, visit http://www.memorytrends.com .

Lori’s East Region includes the states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana. To contact Lori email her at Ldurcharme@offinger.com  or visit http://www.MemoriesCommunity.com  .

It’s an exciting time of year for scrapbookers in the East Region, as ACCI just finished up and we now anxiously await the arrival of new products to our local stores. Memories Community East Region scrappers and stampers alike will be thrilled with the products that have been developed this year: "lumpy scrappers" will be keeping their eye out for all the new embellishments; and many will want to scrapbook some of the many cornfields in our East Region with Creative Imaginations’ John Deere papers becoming available soon!

Some companies/products to be on the lookout for:
Rusty Pickle - Paper, leather tags and ephemera products
Scrappy Chic - Brand new line from Me & My Big Ideas
Life's Journey - Brand new line from K&Company
Chatterbox - Buy papers by the sheet now!
KI Memories - Many new products, and more "Boy" products as well
Making Memories- Phase Four of Details has even more new ideas

I will be hosting several Memories Community East Regional events in the last months of 2003: there are three weekend retreats on the schedule at Heritage Hill, a central Ohio Bed & Breakfast. Dates include October 3-5 and November 7-9. The retreat weekends are a combination of relaxing, scrapping, projects and even shopping. Recently added was the October weekend, which will include classes and projects throughout the event for attendees. Please visit http://www.memoriesexpo.com/locallink/east.htm for more information.

And finally, check this out: the first day registration for the Orlando Memories Expo was the highest ever. Registration was open for Memories Community Members only starting on July 23, and classes filled to over 50 percent in the first 24 hours. There were less than 20 exhibitor booths available as of press time. For more information about the Memories Expo show, please visit http://www.MemoriesExpo.com  .

11.  Article: Staying On Track
By Michael Angier, Success Net

One of the most important things Success Net does is to help people stay on track in being their best. Pretty much everything we do is targeted toward that end.

I know that anyone can do the things necessary to be successful and accomplish their goals.

The challenge is to do them consistently.

And that's what separates the winners from the also-rans. Staying on track day in and day out is what it takes to weave successful days into a successful life.

So how do we stay on track? How do we remain motivated and focused toward our highest and best?

Allow me to share with you a few things that have worked for me. Perhaps they can help you stay on track.

Three Most Important Goals

I have many goals. I always have a few dozen I'm working toward. But I keep three first and foremost in my mind. Every day I know I must do something that will help me make progress toward their achievement.

I look at these goals every day. They're never out of my consciousness. And I usually do take action every day on each of these three goals.

What's Next?

Martin Sheen's character in the hit TV series "The West Wing" is President Jeb Bartlett. His way of saying that he's done with something and ready to move on is to ask the question, "What's next?"

It's a good question to ask ourselves. Not only what's next, but what's the most important thing we can do today to move us closer to our most important objectives.

Keep Your Goals in Front of You

Put pictures of your goals up so you see them often. Review them regularly, but most importantly, review the reasons why you want to accomplish these goals. It's the reasons that will make the difference.

Talk About Your Goals with Supportive People

Having a Master Mind group is ideal, but even if you don't have one, you can still share your goals with people who will encourage and support you. And you can do the same for them.

By talking about your goals, you make them more real. You'll also get ideas from others on how you can better achieve them. People can't help you if they don't know what you want.

Forgive Yourself and Move On

Way too much emotional energy and thinking is wasted because we keep reviewing past behaviors. The past is gone. Today is all we have. Don't squander time and energy thinking about what you should have done, could have done, what you did or might have done.

Today is a new day. Move on. The point of power is in the present.

Affirmation and Visualization

Affirmative statements and visualizing the achievement of our goals help us to "feel" our way to success. Anything we can do to elevate our emotional connection with our objectives will help us stay on track.

It's well worth developing strategies that work to keep us consistently moving toward our goals. As we do so we build a track record of success, and setting and achieving bigger goals becomes even easier.
